An Operating System is the low-level software which controls a computer. It controls how your hardware functions, the communication with peripherals such as a monitor, a printer or a keyboard, the allocation of memory between various applications, and the prioritization of applications in case several run at once. Each program which is installed on a PC operates by sending requests to the OS for different services by using an application program interface (API). The contact with the OS is possible using a Graphical User Interface (GUI) or a command line. In the Internet hosting field, the Operating System is what commands a web server and any software installed on it, which includes not only website scripts, but also any other application for instance a VOIP or a game server. When there are virtual machines created, they use a guest OS that runs on the server host OS.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers

The dedicated server packages that we offer come with as many as three different Operating Systems to pick from. They are all Linux distributions - Ubuntu, CentOS and Debian, and not only do they have no license charges, but they’re also regarded as the most dependable and risk-free OSs. We provide three different ones because each of them is supported by a separate community. The packages which you can add on your hosting server are different and this could matter if you need to install some piece of software with particular requirements for the hosting environment. In this light, the hosting Control Panel that you can select for the dedicated server also depends on the OS that you will pick. You can select any of the three Operating Systems during the order procedure, however if necessary, we can always install the server once again with a different one upon your request. As an optional service that you may add to the plan at any moment, we can update the OS on a regular basis to keep it as risk-free as possible.
